Lil Wayne Ft. Eminem

After listening to this song i really liked it and i think Hip-Hop and Rock is a very good and Eminem is a rapper so it is a mix between Rap/Hip-Hop/Rock so it is very different to average music. Thats why i like it. It has alot of emotion and provokes emotion with both lyrics and beat.

Gavin And Stacey Essay

Gavin and stacey is a comedy television programme. It is based in both Wales and england, depending on the charecters being shown. Gavin and Smithy are two young men from Essex in England, Gavin and Vanessa are two young women from Barry in Wales. The story consists of Gavin meeting Stacey and Smithy meeting 'Ness which produces love in both partnerships. After watching the start of Episode 1 of Series one, the charecters already start to show resembalance to my post i blogged abouth Northern and Southern stereotypes, for example Northerners are heavy drinkers, laid back ,friendly and foul mouthed. Whereas Southerners are 'Posh', Business like, richer and office occupations. In this episode and part that we watched as a class, i notice that the camera angles repeat with both charecters as the focus switches from the English family to the Welsh. The camera shots are often Mid shots to show the charecters upper body actions, and because it is not an action filled series, the whole body is not needed to be shown. Also camera angles such as long shots are often used outside the charecters house to show where the scene is and stop people getting confused about where everyone is. The Houses are also a big difference and play on the stereotypes set for each household. The welsh household id very small, the house is a terraced house and is in a very urban place where there is lots of other houses of the same size. However this then creates a binary opposite, because the English house where Gavin lives is a large modern house, set in a rural area out the way of city and busy roads, and the scene shows Gavins mum, Pam, having been at home all day because Gavins father is the breadwinner and obviously earns enough for pam not to work and the family to live comfortably.
The lighting in both houses also shows contrast in the families wealth, the welsh families house is very dark, dull barely lit. Whereas the england based families house is fully lit, bright and very poshly build with expensive furniture and appliances. The charecters used are very well chosen in that they all have different personalities that creates love and conflict. Gavin and Stacey are very in love despite on just meeting face-to-face in the first episode, They are very polite and generous to each other, for example Gavin talks in a polite manner over the phone the day before they meet. Gavin is very easy going and comes across very nice and friendly, the opposite to his southern stereotype of stuck up and stubborn. However his best friend, Smithy, is the opposite because he is rude, mouthy and unkind. For example he tells Gavin he will only come to meet Stacey in London if she brings a friend and she is not a ''Munter''. Stacey is similar to Gavin, a polite and generous and loving young woman who gets on with her family. Vanessa is then the same as smithy, rude, unthoughtful and foul mouthed. Vannessa has a tattoo on her shoulder of the welsh flag, showing her patriotic mind for her country, she wears hardly and clothes, but because of her weight most viewers dont find her attractive. She doesnt care of what people have to say to or about her and she is almost manly in the way she stands and behaves. The director has produced these charecters to show two potentiallly 'perfect' couples. Staceys mum is very much like Stacey, polite, soft voice with a gentle touch and a very generous woman. Gavin mother is very much like the average ''dumb blonde''. She is blonde and acts very stupid, for example when Gavin arrives home she tells him she has been crying because she saw a badger on an animal programme crying, but because badgers dont cry she is imagining it and being childish. Again at the table she acts stupidly by having 3 steaks because she is on the Atkins diet. But instead of getting rid of hercarbs she replaces them thinking she will lose weight by doing that. Gavin's father is almost sly in that he sneaks off work to play golf. He plays golf which is an 'Upper class' sport. He wears a suit and the family portrays a masculine and femanine stereotype, Gavin and his dad wearing blue and Gavins mother wearing pink.
Both families are very different but the director has used camera angles and acting skills so that the audience see's the families as similar in personality, different in wealth. The programme is aimed at all ages but mainly 20-40 year olds who think to relate to the programme.

The Warriors

This is a clip from one of my favourite films, The Warriors. The film is based in Coney Island, Brooklyn, in 1979 when New York and American street gangs were a big thing who fought for turf. The Warriors are a fictional gang who are very low in reputation at the start on the film, but after a shooting of the biggest gang leader in new york, the warriors are blamed and spend the film fighting and running to survive. I like this film because of the very good story line. Its action packed and full of gang wars and fighting which i enjoy in a film. Because of its date it was made, bot many effects are used due to lack of film technology and can be critised for some scenes and acting events. But the film also is very realistic in that this is how American gangs in the 70's were. This scene is one of my favourites because it involves violence, cleverly minded gang fighting techniques and the way the toilet doors, sinks, mirrors and walls are used for extra effect when breaking or smashing. The camera angles used in this scene are very similar throughout and the deirector has used close ups and medium shots cleverly to mask unrealistic fighting and non contact use of weapons. This is done by placing the camera behind the fight taking place, so the audience see someone hitting another person with a bat, but the person being hit is blocking the actual contact. The shots move very quickly in this, showing one attack from a pair fighting, to another within seconds, to show the fight is quick and everyone is involved. The music used is also a very quick beat to show adrenaline and rushing to win the fight.

Preliminary Excercise

I chose to use Hannah as my model because she is very photogenic and performs good magazine cover quality poses. I chose the colour Pink/purple because it mixes with hannahs femanine touch and makes it fit in within the overall magazine. I decided to do survival of school for newcomers because from past experience coming to a new school and being the youngest year its very hard to get settled and find the confidence to interact with everyone. I could relate to the magazines genre because i have had recent experience and can include quotes and storys, and makke it more biased to show opinion.

Sony. Make. Believe

After viewing this advert on television i decided to analyse it. This advert is very eye catching as it has been produced using special effects. The advert is very colourful and shows a child floating alongside an astronaught, showing a role model, maybe to say ''if you buy these sony gadjets you can be futurist and a good role model''. The advert shows all different gadjets and also sells their products in one advert rather then seperate adverts on each different product. The products come into play by floating around the room with the child also to show futuristic refrences. The target audience is for middle aged men, maybe with children to be the ideal 'cool Dad' with all the gadjets. It also aims the products at children or women buying for their husband or Dad. The song on the advert is very appealing and the advert very much revolves around the song. A line in the song says '' Hello Mystery, Don't bother to explain''. This is saying to the audience that the new sony gadjets are mysterious, making you want to purchase them to reveal the mystery, and also its saying ''don't bother to explain'' meaning the products are easy to use and you should buy one to have less worrys and problems because the gadjets will sort them out for you. I like the choice of song for this advert, not only because i like it personally, but it is very upbeat and electrtonic, much like the products, so it is similar to them. The song is called 'Black and Blue' by Miike Snow.

My Favourite Songs

My two favourite songs ever are by one of my favourite artists, Kid Cudi. Kid Cudi is a Hip-Hop artists who became popular worldwide with his hit 'Day n Nite'. My reasons for liking this artist so much are that he is very individual, producing songs no other Hip-Hop artist would think of producing. These two songs are very emotionally produced and are very enjoyable to listen to. I like these songs because the are slower than usual hip-hop but have alot of meaning and emotion involved to make the listener feel they can relate to Kid Cudi.

My Music

My main interest in music is Hip Hop. i Like some indie or pop songs but very few. The reason i enjoy listening to Hip Hop and Rap is because it is very emotional and there is usually a story or memory behind the song or artist. The artists usually have a story behind there success and i think that some artist inspire people for example when Artist were drug dealers or had to 'hussle' to get money to survive. Many Hip-Hop artist grew up in dangerous places and have either been arrested, shot stabbed or injured in a severe way.
My favourite hip-hop artists are Lil Wayne, Drake, Nipsey Hussle, Chip tha Ripper and Kid Cudi. All of these artist produce Hip-Hop or Rap music. My favorite song at this moment in time is Lil Wayne - Shoot Me Down. I like this song because it has a background music of rock and the chorus is very catchy. Lil Wayne has started to produce Hip-Hop and Rock combined music and i think it is a very good mixture.

Young Money Personalities

The Group of Young Money are very similar in the way they present themselves but all have different persalitys on show. Some of the group, like Lil Wayne and Gudda Gudda, have many tattoos and lots of jewelry represent religious and personal beliefs.

Tattoos:

Young Money members represent tattoos to show pernonal factors such as religion, family, friends, and are also displyed for fashion. Lil Wayne portrays many tattoos covering him from head to toe, showing his memories and beliefs. An example of his tattoos which presents his personality is his religious phrases and symbols. For example he has 'Fear God' tattoo'd on his eyelids, and a religious cross on his forhead, and a prayer down one side of his back. He has many tattoos relating to his names and Knicknames and his groups/Hip Hop partners, like on his stomach he has 'Young Money'. He even has sponsership tattoos such as ESPN and Rolls Royce.

Jewelry

Jewelry is a very big thing in Hop Hop in that it shows peoples confidance and style. Some artist wear huge medallions and thick chains to be noticed. Young Money represent jewelry to show there wealth or religious views, For example this picture of Lil Wayne wearing several big chains...

Clothing

Clothing is a big part of Young Money's presentation. Apart from all the desogner and expensive clothing, the way it is worn seperates the artists from others. Baggy jeans are usually a normal dress style in Hip Hop but Young Money don't always have the same style. The group wear clothing outside of the normal Hip Hop range and wear recognisably different styles. skinny jeans worn low is a big style icon from Young Money. Also Young Money favour accessories such as hats and glasses. This is a style to be worn fashionably rather than a needed accessory for example Sunglasses will be worn indoors or when it is not sunny.

Young Money Style

Young Money Entertainment members wear very unique clothing. Usually wearing expensive designer brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Bape and others famous brands such as Nike. The artists wear very low or baggy jeans, with high top trainers. A baggy white t-shirt is very commonly worn by these Black artists because it is known to be ' Gangster ' clothing. Jewellery is a big thing worn by these Hip-Hop artists because of its unique design showin their name, group or logo. Another big thing is tattoos, all of the Young Money rappers have many tattoos of unique resembalism, the tear drop tattoo below the right eye is very common, this tattoo relates to Murder or death of loved ones, different styles of teardrop show different meanings such as avenged murder or suicide of a loved one. Hats and glasses are now more commonly worn by these artist for style.

Commando - Arnold Schwarzenegger

In this clip of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film 'Commando', Arnold starts the film very manly and showing off his muscles and his size and power, but when his daughter shows in the film, he acts very weak and caring, the complete opposite to his role as a strong macho man who has power and strength. His daughter is very small and harmless, which reflects on Arnold and he potrays the same behaviour. Arnold almost treats his daughter like a wife, relying on her to make dinner, a motherly role, and she writes him a love letter as if they are in a relationship. They both are very close and kisses and hugs occur very often, maybe to often for a child and her father.
Arnold teaches his daughter and acts a very good role model despite the missing mother role in the family. He teaches her to defend herself using karate, and then shows her how to fish. He often picks his daughter up showing his strength and dominance, but is careful in that he carries her above him to show her importance. The daughter is mostly higher in status in this scene, from being above Arnold in height, or playing the leading role by making dinner or setting the table ready for food which she has made, a very female stereotype, cooking cleaning and caring.

Music Magazines

My focus for a music magazine is Hip-Hop and Rap. I have chosen this genre of music to research and template my final piece because i enjoy the Hip-Hop world and all that is included. Hip-Hop magazines are very popular and are very big in the magazine industry selling millions a year. Hip-Hop itself is very big in the UK and America and most of the singers, artits and bands are American or English. I am researching such magazines as XXL, Scratch, Fader, GQ, The Source and a few others. A few of the magazines listed are shown above. XXL is a very well known and popular Hip-Hop and Rap magazine, Started in 1997 it has compete with the biggest Hip-Hop magazines since its beginning and has been a great success.
Hip-Hop is a huge aspect of the music industry today and tops the charts over many other music genres often. Todays magazine facus on artists in the lime light creating big successs in Hip-Hop. such artists like Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, 50 Cent, Eminem, Drake, Jay-Z, Chip Tha Ripper and Kid Cudi. These artists are known worldwide because of their Hip-Hop and there rich lifestyles, making them an icon to many viewers and listeners. I hope to complete a successful Hip-Hop related magazine for my project and XXL will be my main help in that i will imitate ideas and structure for my own magazine.

Editing

Continuity: Camera shots flow together to prevent the viewers witnessing an instant change in angle or scene.

Montage: Vintage filming which purposely shows cuts to the viewers for straight snappy effect, mainly used in the 1920's.

Transitions: The definition of how the producer changes angles and shots in a scene.

Cross cutting/Parallel editing: Showing diffrent scenes and shots on one shot, usually cutting ther two actions up with horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines.

Dissolving: Two shots gradually dissolve into one to show only one shot on the screen.

Wipes: A shot in which one focus wipes across another to change what the viewers are focusing on.

Camera Angles

In television and film related media, many different camera angles are used to give effect and emphasis to the viewers and in many cases the angles can show the viewers things the charecters can't. This technique is often used in horror films and action films making the viewers almost scream at the television screen to tell somebody to get out of the way or run from an attacker.

Extreme long shot: An establishing shot, often used to set the scene and shows viewers where the filming is located.

Long Shot: Includes whole object or person, often showing life size shots to establish people/object size. often shows more than one charecter.

Mid Shot: Usually shows people from the waist up, only showing the person and what he/she is doing by capturing their actions and focusing on that only.

Close Up: Focuses on someones face or a certain detail, only shows the object/person and very little background. Often used for specific detail.

Extreme Close Up: Even closer than the close up, minor detail showed and is used to show things like scratches on peoples faces or facial expresions.

Pan Shot: Use of a tripod it moves horizontally across the screen to show surroundings or movement.

Tilt Shot: the camera is tilted to show vertical movements.

Aerial Shot: Often shot from a helicoptor or plane to set the scen in movement.

Zoom: zooms in on an action or movement to show it is the important focus on the screen.

Tracking Shot: The camera moves with an objects movement and follows it.

High Angle: A camera view looking down on something/someone to show status and weakness. Used for women because of weakness and vulnerability.

Low Angle: A shot from below someone/something looking up to show power and status.Often used foe men because of their dominance.

How Soaps Portray Males

Old/Wise/Gives Advice

Geek/clever

Thug/Hardman

Ladies Man/Dominant

Kind/Nice

Soaps portray many different stereotypes of men in their programmes. Soaps, such as Eastenders, usually have most types of personalitys in their actors to produce good television for their viewers. For example, Jack Branning is a very masculine man who is a former police officer and is strong, clever and good looking. This makes him very popular with women making him a stereotypical ladies man. He is fancied by many of the female actors in the programme and is often in a relationship with a stereotypical blonde, such as Ronnie mitchell. Billy Mitchell, who is the complete opposite of Jack Branning, is small, not very strong and pleasant to ladies rather than seductive. He isnt fancied by the female actors, but is a very nice, kind and generous man. Patrick Trueman is wise and old and always giving advice. He is like a father to all of the actors in that he helps and guides them to be successful. Phil Mitchell, the thug of Eastenders is also a bit of a ladies man, but shows he doesnt care whereas inside he really does. He is like an oyster in that inside he is loving and caring but puts on a thugish shell to show dominance and prevent weakness. Tamwar Masood is a young, geeky teenager who comes across and 'annoyingly clever'. he irritates others and his geekyness is not a dominant factor.
Eastenders uses all these different charecters to appeal to every male viewer and female viewers and because of all the different types of males, this produces conflict and jealously to make the programme exciting for the viewers. All soaps have 5 different male charecters who hold significant traits and values.
