Preliminary Task Evaluation Questions
1. Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?

In this exercise i worked with Leonie and Erica. We produced a short film in which we involved different camera angles and camera techniques. I filmed the piece whilst Leonie and Erica acted.

2. How did you plan your sequence? What element did you use for your inspiration?

We planned our sequence by drawing a cartoon strip with pictures and diagrams to show the different types of camera angles. Our inspiration for this task was teen pregnancy and how teenagers reacted.

3. What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?

To film our piece we used a video camera to film and a tri-pod to create stillness and camera tilting.

4. What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?

We had to take into account the cameras ability and our ability to act and film. Also we had to take into account time and space as we hadnt much time and only a corridoor to film in.

5. How successful was your sequence/magazine cover? Identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently?

our final piece was satisfactory. We needed to improve by taking more notice to detail and we needed to work at a quicker pace to finish our film on time.

6. What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing the rest of your foundation coursework?

We have learnt to use a video camera and how to create better filming through camera angles and camera techniques.

Miike Snow

I put this video on my blog because i like the song but also the video is very interesting. Miike Snow uses alot of different camera angles in the video and the scenes are usually rural, urban and outdoors, relating to the song title 'animal', expressing that animals often live rurally or in urban places. Snow also uses alot of still images in series. This gives a good effect to the viewers and many music videos use these shots, Such as this video from Wale featuring Lady Gaga:

Vladimir Propp's Character Roles.

In This lesson we learnt about a russian critic called Vladimir Propp who came up with the theory that every novel and story consisted of eight main roles, these roles may be fulfilled by characters or feelings within the narrative.

The eight different roles were as follows:

-The Hero (seeks something)
-The Villan (Opposes the Hero)
-The Donor (Helps the hero by providing a magic object)
-The dispatcher (Sends hero on his way)
-The False Hero (Falsely assuming the role of the hero)
-The Helper (Gives support to the hero)
-The Princess (Reward for Hero and needs protection from villan)
-Father of Princess.

Characters Within A Novel

The Hero- Sheep
-The Villan- Humans
-The Donor- Jackalope
-The dispatcher- Jackalope
-The False Hero- Jackalope
-The Helper- Bounding
-The Princess- Bounding
-Father of Princess- Jackalope

After watching this short film i applied Vladimir Propps theory to it. As shown above the sheep is the hero, by finding it within him to not need to have a full coat of fur to be happy.

Music

I chose to post this video on my blog because i enjoy the music and artists involved in the song and video. I like the video to this song alot because i has alot of effect in the camera angles and lighting. also the effects in this video emphasise the artists and the songs lyrics.

The Royal Tenenbaums

Our first media review and analysis was on the film ''The Royal Tenenbaums''. we only watched a short clip of the film which was the beginning. In the lesson we analysed camera angles and we were set a task to write a 500-1000 word essay on a selected charecter. The charecter i chose to analysed for the task was the daughter, who was adopted, Margot. For this task i received a grade C and i was happy taking into account it was my first media essay, but i hope to improve on my essay writing within my media lessons and with help from peers and teachers. I hope to push a C grade essay up to a B grade in the next task.

Eva Mendes CK Advert

The 'Male Gaze'

We spent a lesson of media focusing on Laura Mulvey's work on 'Visual Pleasure'. Mulvey's theory was that visual media used 'The Gaze' to interenst its audiences. In the lesson we focused mainly on the male prospective of viewing media. Mulvey describes how women are often just 'eye candy' for male viewers and men are the dominant actors. Females are used in the film for sexual purposes more often than for intelligence and women are shown to be weak and dumb rather than strong and clever. We reviewed her theorys and watch a music video from Scouting For Girls which showed her theory on the 'Male Gaze'was correct.

Magazine Cover

We spent several media lessons producing a front cover for a school related magazine in which i worked with Erica in a pair. Our front cover consisted of a picture of Hannah who was our Model for the magazine. The magazine was about school survival in Lutterworth College and how to get around. Our magazine was aimed at new students to the school who needed assistance getting used to the Do's and Dont's of Lutterworth College. We worked wellon the front cover and produced a good piece for this taskin which we were set.

First Filming

In the first lessonin which we used camera equipment in media, me Leonie and Erica were set a task to produce a short film in which we had to identify and film different camera angles. I filmed Leonie and Erica outside of our classroom and we produced a story board to follow. I filmed Erica and Leonie and our final film after editing was a good start.
