The 'Male Gaze'

We spent a lesson of media focusing on Laura Mulvey's work on 'Visual Pleasure'. Mulvey's theory was that visual media used 'The Gaze' to interenst its audiences. In the lesson we focused mainly on the male prospective of viewing media. Mulvey describes how women are often just 'eye candy' for male viewers and men are the dominant actors. Females are used in the film for sexual purposes more often than for intelligence and women are shown to be weak and dumb rather than strong and clever. We reviewed her theorys and watch a music video from Scouting For Girls which showed her theory on the 'Male Gaze'was correct.
